Announcement bar

Choose whether you want to show the Announcement bar above the header on every page. You can display rotating announcements, featured links, social media icons, and allow visitors to select their preferred store language and country.

Manage announcements


Add up to three rotating announcements to inform customers about current promotions, new product lines, or other store updates. Each announcement may contain a link for your clients to click on and visit a promotional page.

Besides promotional messeges, consider adding an announcement for:

  • any shipping delays or regions not accepting international shipments;
  • any new or updated policy pages.

Manage announcements

There are three different ways that you can customize your announcement bar:

  • Style: Choose a color scheme to change the background and text color of your announcement bar.
  • Function: Add a language selector, a country or region selector, and social media icons to your announcement bar.
  • Animation: Add multiple announcements. Choose to have your announcements automatically rotate, or let your customers go through your announcements using the chevron buttons manually.

Add and edit the announcement bar


Steps to add a new announcement bar:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes ↗.
  2. Click Customize.
  3. In the Announcement bar section, click Add Announcement. (You can add up to three (3 announcements).
  4. In the Text field, enter your announcement text.
  5. Optional: Click the Link field, and then do one of the following:
    • Enter a URL to direct your customers to a specific location.
    • Use the dropdown menu to select a page from your online store.
  6. Click Save.

Steps to edit the announcement bar:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes ↗.
  2. Click Customize next to the theme that you want to customize.
  3. Click the Announcement bar section.
  4. Optional: Choose the layoutoption by clicking:
    1. Slideshow (Each announcement will take up the full screen).
    2. Marquee (Each announcement will be repeated to fill the full screen width).
    3. Grid (All announcements will be placed side by side and won't be repeated).
  5. Optional: You can change a color scheme by clicking on Change button under Color scheme.
  6. Optional: If you have multiple announcements and you want to rotate them automatically, then do the following:
    1. In the Change slides every slider, select the frequency of how often your announcements rotate (3 to 9 seconds).
    2. Click and drag the ⋮⋮  icon to move an announcement into a different order.
  7. Click Save.

Remove an announcement bar


You can hide or delete an announcement bar that you don't want to display on your online store. Hiding an announcement bar removes it from your online store without deleting it, and you can unhide it to display it on your online store again. Deleting an announcement bar is a permanent action that can't be undone.


Steps

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes ↗.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.
  3. Click the Announcement bar toggle to display a list of your announcement bars.
  4. Remove the announcement bar by using one of the following methods:
    • To hide an announcement bar, hover your mouse pointer over the announcement block, and then click the eye icon.
    • To delete an announcement bar, click the announcement bar that you want to delete, and then click Remove block.
  5. Click Save.
